Saad Maan, who serves as security advisor for the Iraqi Ministry of Interior (MOI) signed the agreement on Wednesday after meetings with Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi and chairman of the central headquarters of Arbaeen Majid Mirahmadi.
In their meetings, the Iranian and Iraqi officials discussed issues of Arbaeen pilgrimage including ways to facilitate the movement of pilgrims as well as security issues related to the huge gathering in Iraq.
Arbaeen is a mourning ritual observed by shia Muslims worldwide to mark the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hossein (AS), the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), which falls on September 6 this year.
Millions of shia Muslims travel to Iraq, mostly from or via Iran, in weeks before Arbaeen to visit holy shrines in the Arab country.
